The Cyclic Mechanism of Adsorption and Desorption
VPSA Oxygen Generator (Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption Oxygen Generator) realizes air separation based on the selective adsorption characteristics of molecular sieves, with a complete working cycle typically ranging from 60 to 90 seconds. In the adsorption phase, the blower delivers filtered compressed air (after removing oil, water, and dust through pre-treatment equipment) into the adsorption tower at a pressure of 0.1-0.3MPa (near atmospheric pressure). The tower is filled with lithium-based or zeolite molecular sieves, which have a 4-5 times stronger adsorption capacity for nitrogen than oxygen. As air flows through the molecular sieve bed (with a height of 1.5-2.5 meters), nitrogen molecules are trapped in the sieve’s porous structure, while oxygen (accounting for 21% of air) passes through unimpeded.
The oxygen is then collected through the top outlet of the tower, and after being stabilized by a buffer tank, it is delivered to the user terminal with a purity of 90%-95%—a range that meets most industrial and medical standards. When the molecular sieve in one tower reaches adsorption saturation (indicated by a drop in oxygen purity detected by the online sensor), the system automatically switches to the other tower (most VPSA systems adopt a dual-tower parallel design) to continue oxygen production, ensuring uninterrupted supply.
Core Advantages Backed by Technology
The low energy consumption of VPSA Oxygen Generators is its most prominent advantage. With an energy consumption of only 0.32-0.38kWh/Nm³, it is 30%-40% more energy-efficient than traditional cryogenic distillation and 15%-20% more efficient than conventional PSA systems. This is attributed to the near-atmospheric pressure adsorption design, which reduces the load on the blower, and the vacuum desorption mechanism that avoids high-pressure compression of regeneration gas.
In addition, the high degree of automation is another key highlight. The entire system is controlled by a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) with a touchscreen operation interface. Operators only need to set parameters such as oxygen flow rate (ranging from 10 to 5000Nm³/h) and purity, and the system will automatically complete tower switching, pressure regulation, and fault alarm. The modular design allows for flexible capacity expansion: for example, a chemical plant initially requiring 100Nm³/h oxygen can add 50Nm³/h modules later without modifying the existing system, saving 30%-50% of the reconstruction cost compared to integrated equipment.
