Sodium silicate, commonly known as water glass or泡花碱 (pāo huā jiǎn), is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Na₂SiO₃·9H₂O (hydrated form) or R₂O·nSiO₂, where R₂O represents an alkali metal oxide (like Na₂O) and n is the molar ratio of SiO₂ to R₂O, known as the modulus. It is typically a colorless or slightly blue transparent solid or viscous liquid, with a density of about 2.4 g/cm³ and a melting point of 1088°C.
