Why do you need home insurance?
Home insurance is a serious investment for any home owner, and sometimes it can be just as crucial and important as the purchase of the house itself. When you buy home insurance, you instantly increase the safety of your house and your family in a wide range of situations. Of course, simply having a home insurance policy won't save you from fire, flood or earthquake damage, it's not a magic charm to protect your house while other building can be damaged or destroyed. But when you have home insurance, the financial impact o such damage is minimized.
Let's compare two situations. In the first situation, you don't have any house insurance coverage and rely only on your savings. In the second, you have a basic home insurance policy on your hands that protects your house in a set of events. Now, let's assume that your house was severely damaged by a windstorm and most of its contents are lost or broken into pieces. It's evident that in the first scenario you will need to have really large savings, comparable to the value of the house and its contents, in order to cope with the damage. And let's be honest, it's nearly impossible to have such substantial savings for an average family these days. The second scenario is much more favorable as the home insurance policy will pay off the repair (or rebuilding) of your home and replace the items damaged or lost in case you have compiled a respective inventory earlier. And taking the fact that home insurance premiums are not as high as you would need to accumulate with savings, it's pretty much obvious that having home insurance is a smart idea if you worry about your house and its contents.
As you see, having a house insurance policy is very important for a person who really wants to make a fortress out of own home. Of course it may turn out that you will never need home insurance coverage, and that would be really great. But first weight in all the costs that you will have to deal with in case a fire breaks loose or a windstorm comes through your town, destroying your house completely and you don't have any home insurance coverage. That would be really bad, don't you think? So for the sake of your and your family's financial safety and stability, getting a home insurance policy is certainly highly recommended.
